The Colour of Health aims to provide health information and lifestyle tips primarily for women from a diverse range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs and traditions living in the UK.

Asian community less likely to attend cancer screening
University of Warwick study findings

A new study has found that members of the South Asian community are 15 per cent less likely to attend breast cancer screening and only half as likely to accept an invitation to be screened for bowel cancer as members of the non-Asian community.

Researchers at the University of Warwick examined uptake in the NHS breast and bowel cancer screening programmes among more than 400,000 people in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Large-scale study finds lack of exercise causes tooth loss

The UK’s number one dental charity is urging people to make more effort to exercise if they want to keep all of their teeth – after a large-scale study found that people who stay fit and healthy are 40% less likely to develop a tooth threatening gum infection. 

The British Dental Health Foundation issued the warning after a study published in the Journal of Periodontology found that not exercising, failing to maintain a normal body weight and unhealthy eating habits drastically increased a person’s chances of developing periodontitis (advanced gum disease) and losing their teeth.
